Titik Nol tells stories about Siti, Sukran and eventually Sofyan.

Siti, a Malaysian Moslem woman and Sukran, an Acehnese boy, have a common link, Sofyan.
Sofyan’s life is pretty much affected by the political situation in Aceh. The existence of the Free Aceh Movement and its tension with the Indonesian government affects all Acehneses’ lives. But how does this affect Siti’s life, a woman who lives in Malaysia? When the Aceh Tsunami coloured and Sofyan went missing, their lives become even more complicated and they were left with questions.

When someone is missing, we keep hoping that he will come back, but how long will we wait? In the end, we would want a word of assurance, just to let us know that he is really gone.

Agnes Christina

I first watched Titik Nol short film when I produced Indonesian Arts Festival in 2010. Shortly after, I collaborated with Nicholas for the first time in Teater Ekamatra’s “Bersendaloka”. Then Nicholas presented me with the idea or a film screening with live music accompaniment from Bang Agus. Having experimented with video and theatre for few times, I thought of expanding Titik Nol short film into a full-length play. and here it is… Titik Nol. I kind of push it further by having one actor from Singapore and one actor from Jakarta and also touring this show to Jakarta 1 week after its Singapore premiere. It’s been a truly enriching experience working with Nicholas Yudifar, Kak Ema (welcome back to Theater!) and Bang Agus.

I hope you enjoy Titik Nol; It’s been quite a wonderful journey to present this play to you.

Nicholas Yudifar

My first contact with theatre scene started in my high school years. I was acting in a cabaret. After that,  I was more involved in the film scene, photography and visual art as director.

In this production, Agnes invited me to collaborate and expand a short film that he made in 2009, titled Titik Nol. This experience is exciting because I get to be involved in the creative side of a live performance, yet nerve-wracking because there is much to learn and explore about theatre.

In the film, you can retake or cut a scene to get the desired outcome, but in theatre, there is no retake or cut. I guess I am lucky this time because I am collaborating with experienced individuals in theatre who contribute a lot to this learning process. We have Bang Agus and Kak Ema who are experienced actors and have been performing locally and internationally, and Agnes a talented artist with brilliant ideas.

I hope this collaboration could produce one classic piece and leave an impression on the audience.

It’s really wonderful experience for me, playing with the light and the expression of the actors.
The Story is really good, and it’s telling about facts in our life. How the social politic environment will impact you, how the relationship between father and mother and brings the character to the son.
quite many phases of the paragraph that really meaningful, I like the sentence “If you love someone, let him free, if he is back then is your love, he will back for you” but continue with the reply “but sometime, you also possessive” to counter back that ‘love freedom sentence”.
And how the feeling of someone that waiting for assurance, looking for the person their love.
I really impress with Bang Agus’s impression and also Kak Ema, they are really talented and can really express their character. I was really happy I was there with them.

Agnes, Nicholas and all the team members, please keep it up, bring more stories to us, and bring more “lessons of life” to us.
